Holidaysin Cyprus – Events Throughout the Year

More people than ever are choosing Cyprus for their holidays, and it's not just the weather and romance of the island that attracts them - holidays in Cyprus are fantastic at any time of the year you decide to go, because there's always something to do and something to see. With a wide range of events throughout the annual Cyprus calendar, you can tailor your holidays in Cyprus in order to coincide with a particular event if you wish.

Late winter and early spring is a great time to travel. Obviously, you can take your holidays in Cyprus over the Christmas period, where you can join in with the Cypriots as they celebrate the festivities and ring in the New Year. Cypriots, while shy, certainly know how to celebrate - you're sure of a fantastic time. If you travel slightly later, you can enjoy the 11 day carnival held in Limassol during late February and early March. For a truly spectacular event, try to take in the grand carnival parade at the end of the stretch. March also sees the Cyprus Sunshine Cup, the international ski races in the Troodos Mountains, the Cyprus Marathon and the historic car rally - so plenty for the sports enthusiast to enjoy. If you prefer something a little less dynamic, March is also the time for the first Fashion Week of the year, and the Documentary Film Festival.

Festivals galore!

When looking for hotels, Cyprus has some great resorts in Limassol, which will put you in the heart of the International Music Festival that's held in April. Of course, also around this time is Easter - something that the Cypriots take very seriously. Watch as church congregations gather outside for the Easter Saturday midnight mass, or watch the evening processions on Good Friday. Across the Easter weekend there are plenty of fun and games throughout Cyprus to celebrate this religious festival.

If you're taking your holidays in Cyprus during May, Limassol is the place to be if you want to enjoy the stunning Flower Festival. With exhibitions, markets, and shows, there's plenty to take in with the fabulous flower parade being the icing on the cake. June, July and August are also busy times when it comes to celebrations and events. The Pentecost celebrations are great fun to watch or join in with, with water fights and swimming and boat races taking place across the island. The Ethnic Festival is also a joy, with global music performances taking place in July. There's also more music festivals, the Shakespeare Festival and summer dance festivals hosted during this period.

Choosing hotels – Cyprus has plenty of choice

If you're partial to a little tipple, the Wine Festival during late August and early September is a hugely popular event where you can sample local wines as well as taking in some traditional performances and feast on local foods. As we move later into the year, you can enjoy the second showing of the Cyprus Fashion Week, or take in the Lemesia, the biggest sporting event held in Cyprus, with a huge range of competitions including boxing, karate, shooting, and rhythmic gymnastics. The Forest Park rally in November is also a great event to catch, where you can watch classic cars racing each other along the mountain passes.

When taking your holidays in Cyprus, there's no need to worry about hotels - Cyprus has a huge selection to suit any budget, so no matter what time of year you go, you’ll be able to find something that fits in with your needs. If you’re looking for 5 star hotels, Cyprus has some beautiful options to choose from.
